NEVER TOO SMALL

Project: Residential Multi Family — Interior Design
Location: North Vancouver, BC
Description:
Not far away from the North Vancouver city center, this project is part of a townhome complex in an area near mountain forests. The idea was to carefully design the interior spaces of this one-bedroom unit in a way that looks and feels beyond its minuscule dimensions.
Our interior design aimed at maximizing the space of this small unit by using a careful choice of materials, textures, and colors as well as by building furniture that can be moved and is not fixed. Therefore, the result was a warm and cozy home that feels like a cozy mountain hideaway in the heart of the city.

Live

The entrance leads from a short hallway to the combined kitchen and living areas creating relaxed circulation patterns between the room, living space, storage, and the linear kitchen. The forest theme design tries to create a connection between the solid and rough expression of the building, and the natural materials and furniture such as the rustic log coffee table and the decorative fireplace which creates the perfect mountain ambiance.
The white oak wood flooring is used to create consistency throughout the spaces, and the color palette combined with the clever use of mirrors connects the different zones together seamlessly by extending sightlines and creating a surprising sense of space. Separated from the living area, the bedroom is designed to be the coziest space in the unit. An elevated bedframe allows for storage beneath. The key feature of the bedroom is the strategic use of mirrors on either side of the bed which amplifies the available light from the window and enables the room to feel larger and brighter.
